ALLIANCE APARTMENTS EXPANSION
Minneapolis, Minnesota

Within this LEED Platinum project, a total of 61 new apartment units were added to the existing Alliance Apartments building in Minneapolis' Elliot Park neighborhood. The new 4 story building has a link that connects it with the existing building and forms a private courtyard for residents' use. As part of the site redevelopment, a large, historic brick duplex was relocated and completely rehabilitated. Porches on both buildings and extensive new landscaping strengthen the pedestrian-oriented, traditional residential character of the neighborhood. Green features of the project include reuse of an existing building, salvage of existing materials, SIP walls on the new construction, thermal mass foundation walls and energy efficient mechanical systems. The development was awarded the first LEED for Homes Mid-rise Platinum certification in the upper Midwest.
