PROJECT: New Ulm Planning Project
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Cermak Rhoades Architects, through the City of New Ulm Chamber of Commerce, conducted two housing workshops for city officials, developers and business leaders to discuss the viability of three potential housing sites in the city. The process began with open group discussions about the merits of each site and a review of the Comprehensive Plan to see how the sites could fit into the larger vision for the city. The next step included preparation of several possible design scenarios. Each scenario was presented as part of an interactive model with removable model pieces so that several different solutions could be tested and discussed for each site. Unlike an abstract color-coded zoning map, the interactive model depicted streets, buildings and open space to give a more realistic view of how development could occur.
