PROJECT: Portland Village
LOCATION
Minneapolis, Minnesota
TESTIMONIAL
"We are very excited about Portland Village; the families certainly meet the requirements of
hardest to serve. They are families that have come from shelters, treatment centers and transitional housing. One mother told me that she is so excited;
it has been years since she has had her own place; "What with going to treatment, prison, and living on the streets, I never thought I could have something
so nice."
One other thing. By month's end 6 children will be reunited with their families."

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This new multi-family supportive housing development consists of twenty-six
two, three and four bedroom units in three buildings. Each building contains
activity rooms shared by its residents and has its own toddler play area
within comfortable view of the building's rear porch. Additionally, an adjacent
existing building was renovated to provide on-site day care and office space
for support staff. The buildings were designed to be compatible with the
large older houses surrounding the site near downtown Minneapolis. A decorative
wrought iron fence rings the urban site and provides a safe area for children
to play. Benches and picnic areas throughout the site provide places for
families to gather. The development serves a population of formerly homeless
families with a history of substance abuse and addiction.
